What started as a small group of Confirmands hanging out has grown into the place to be for teens aged 13 to 18! The Youth Hang-Out brings together teens from St. Martini, Strand Street, and even the Catholic Church in Cape Town for fun, food, friendship, and faith every Friday evening.

Each Friday kicks off at 18h00 with teens catching up, sharing stories, and plenty of laughter. At 19h00 it’s dinner time—because what’s a Hang-Out without great food? From there, it’s a mix of singing, exciting activities, and inspiring talks from youth leaders. Themes often draw from events like their epic youth camp.

This year, the group will join the LUV course during Lent, hosted by St. Martini. Julian Zander, an intern from Germany supports the group and will add fresh ideas.

Navigating the mix of languages—English, Afrikaans, German, and Xhosa—keeps things interesting, but this group is all about inclusivity. The goal? To make every teen feel at home, no matter their background or ability to contribute financially.

We’re creating more than just a Friday night hangout—it’s a space where teens feel loved, where they can be themselves, and where their faith can grow.

The teens love it so much that they’re always asking for more time together—whether it’s an extra hour on Fridays or more opportunities like camps.

As a mom and mentor, this group gives me the chance to walk alongside these young people as they navigate the ups and downs of life. It’s also an opportunity to help bridge the gap between them and their parents. Watching these teens grow in faith and confidence fills me with so much joy.
