Joint meeting of the

Church Councils of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Africa (ELCSA),

Northeastern Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Africa (NELCSA) and

Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Africa (ELCSA (Cape Church))

The Church Councils of the three churches met on 9 & 10 February 2025 at the Africa Vista Lodge in Benoni. The purpose was to get to know each other and to understand the different structures of the churches. ELCSA has an episcopal structure, whereas both NELCSA and we have a congregational structure.

The desire is to seek ways for closer co-operation, working together where possible and opportunities arise. A concerted effort will be made to bring the Pastor’s Conferences together, as an important step towards local engagement and supporting each other in ministry. Opportunities for closer co-operation need to be embraced on local level.
