The meeting started off with a time of reflection and discernment on the watchword for 2026. “And the One who was seated on the throne said: ‘Behold, I am making everything new’.” (Revelations 21:5) Fruitful discussions ensued, first in groups of two and then in the larger group.

God speaks hope into a world that knows change, uncertainty and struggle. To behold is to do more than just glance or look at something, but to be captivated. We asked ourselves as we are invited to behold, to see, to ask: where is God calling us to take new steps, even beyond what feels familiar and comfortable?

We pondered on –:

• The current life of the Cape Church, noting key spiritual, pastoral, organisational, and relational realities shaping us at this time.
• What signs of renewal, challenge, and change are evident?
• Discern where or how the Holy Spirit is prompting us to do new things in the life and mission of the church? What keeps us from doing what we see? What are the stumbling blocks?
• Identify opportunities and responsibilities arising from the process of discernment, share them and put them into practice.

Deliberations took place on the finances for budget and investments. As the budget was trimmed of all fat, the finances must be dealt with discipline and good governance.

Two aspects of church life that need more deliberation and implementation are:

• inviting to a season of prayer for the Cape Church, maybe starting on the Sunday Rogate (Pray) (10.5.2026) until Pentecost Sunday (24.5.2026).
• Offer a virtual forum for teaching and discussion on key and relevant aspects of Lutheran teaching and church life. Would you be interested in participating?
