Act and don’t look away!

16 Days of Activism is an international awareness campaign that strives to spotlight the overwhelming problem in society where women and children suffer relentless violation. This programme will be held from 25 November until 10 December.

Violence against women and children occurs every day but through a targeted campaign during the 16 days it will take the awareness to an individual’s level. GBV (Gender Based Violence) has a negative effect on the lives of women and children. In South Africa, it is a disease that is crippling our country.

Everyone needs to take heed of the consequences of GBV, and where possible help and guide the GBV survivor to find the assistance that they need to recover. GBV is carried out within workplaces, families and schools. During these 16 Days of Activism, we are called to prayerfully seek guidance on how to identify and break the cycle of GBV around us.

As the subject of gender-based violence is taboo in many circles of society it is now time for Church communities to address the problem through discussions and training within the congregations. The slogan for 2024 16 Days of Activism is “Act and don’t look away”.
